Helicity probabilities for heavy quark fragmentation into excited mesons.
In the fragmentation of a heavy quark into a heavy meson whose light degrees of freedom have angular momentum 3/2, all the helicity probabilities are completely determined in the heavy quark limit up to a single probability w 3/2. We point out that this probability depends on the longitudinal momentum fraction z of the meson and on its transverse momentum p ⊥ relative to the jet axis. We calcul...
متن کاملTop quark decays into heavy quark mesons.
For top quark decays into heavy quark mesons Υ and B̄ c , a complete calculation to the leading order both in QCD coupling constant αs and in v, the typical velocity of the heavy quarks inside the mesons, is performed. Relatons between the top quark mass and the decay branching ratios are studied. Comparion with the results which are obtained by using the quark frangmentation functions is also d...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION
We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.
متن کاملUsing Heavy Quark Fragmentation into Heavy Hadrons to Determine QCD Parameters and Test Heavy Quark Symmetry∗
We present a detailed analysis of the use of heavy quark fragmentation into heavy hadrons for testing the heavy quark effective theory through comparison of the measured fragmentation parameters of the c and b quarks. Our analysis is entirely model independent. We interpret the known perturbative evolution in a way useful for exploiting heavy quark symmetry at low energy. We first show consiste...
متن کاملHeavy-Quark Fragmentation
We study perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of heavy-quark fragmentation into hadrons, emphasizing the large-x region, where x is the energy fraction of the detected hadron. We first prove that when the moment index N and the quark mass m get large simultaneously with the ratio NΛ/m fixed, the fragmentation function depends on this ratio alone. This opens up the way to formulate the non-...
